An early interest in geology and spirituality led me to an appreciation of the scientist/priest Teilhard de Chardin who had spent many years searching for ancient hominid remains in the Gobi Desert. From the age of 12 I was determined to get to the Gobi. A decade ago I met Tim Cope, author of 'On the Trail of Ghengis Khan' at a conference we were both speaking at and resolved to travel to the Mongolian edge of the Gobi Desert with him. We are both enamoured of nomads, their moving lifestyle and understanding of vast wilderness domains of grass and sand, mountain and sky.
