Josephine Cachemaille


 

 

Josephine Cachemaille is an award-winning installation artist and painter based in Nelson, New Zealand. In the past year alone she has won three significant national art prizes, including the James Wallace Jury Prize and a merit in the National Contemporary Art Awards. She has a post-graduate diploma in art and design and is working towards her Masters of Fine Art. Cachemaille has had multiple solo and public exhibitions exploring her animistic relationship with non-human materials and objects, and her works are held is several significant collections across the country.

Born: 1971, Nelson, NZ

Lives: Nelson with husband Grant Smithies and daughter Rosa.

Education: Post Graduate Diploma in Art and Design, Auckland University of Technology; Bachelor of Arts in Pyschology, University of Otago; Diploma in Visual Arts, Nelson Marlborough Institute of Technology
