This barren dry land near Tarras in Otago is held in counterpoint by the box-shaped water trough reflecting a brilliant blue patch of sky. The viewer's eyes are drawn into the blue reflection by all the animal tracks leading in across the paddock. Both the sky patch and the water trough reflections seem to me to be islands of warmth in darker surrounding clouds and paddocks.
