As trees approach their altitudinal limit, they become gnarled and strange-jointed in bonsai shapes. Combined with rock, water and mist, as in this image at Blue Lake, Nelson Lakes National Park, the atmosphere could be lifted directly from a Chinese 'Mountains and Rivers' school poem. I'm entranced on such mornings at Blue Lake and hope my photo reflects this.
