Campbell Island
Dracophyllum Forest
$1,300.00
This is one of those places I love immensely where the complexity of other growth, apart from my own, almost overwhelms me. These stunted old dracophyllum trees are in the incredibly harsh environment of a subantarctic island, in this case Campbell Island. I had to crawl through the forest following sea lion and penguin tracks, put my tripod at its lowest height setting, and then find some composition. In this case I used dominant vertical thirds but then was delighted by the touch of light escaping on the top left of the frame. The island was covered in a dense sea fog which created the monochrome colour.
Taken on Asahi Pentax 6/7. 45mm lens. 100 ASA. Ektachrome film. Aperture F22.
