Temple Offerings, Varanasi, India
No culture, no country enthralls me more than India. I read Gandhi as a young adolescent and became a vegetarian and, soon after, a public activist. India has a most sophisticated plural of culture of great philosophical discourse and yogic practice, wonderful classical music, poetry and sculptural and painted art. From the village crafts, art and bodily adornment to the most sophisticated intellectual expressions it is an extraordinary alternative to the garish consumer product driven junk that pervades all the other larger countries of the world. No country can seduce a photographer quite like India can.
