The Northwest and Southwest ridges of Aspiring form an extraordinary geometric pyramid from this viewpoint. I was delighted by the way the lower band of purple/blue snow slopes in the shade gave way to a middle third of pink after-glow on the west face of the mountain, only to reverse back in the sky to the same colours of the lower part of the image. This was taken late in the evening and we got back to Queenstown airport that night in a pitch black night sky, well after civil twilight. In such low light situations I fix the speed on 125 sec and ignore the light meter.
