Aoraki/Mt Cook

It's hard for me to photograph some places without quite intense emotions potentially getting in the road. Once, many years ago I slept the night in an ice cave on the summit of Aoraki/Mt Cook, one of the most wonder-filled of my life, so when photographing it now I have to resist the temptation to line up routes I'd like to climb, or revisit ways I have already gone. When I took this photograph I had to make a dispassionate triangle of this glorious mountain and place the inverted cloud on its apex. Good photos are made out of good design, but later I was delighted to see the film had captured the full range of hues from the cream sunlight to the darker shaded purples.

Taken on Asahi Pentax 6/7. 105mm lens. 100 ASA. Ektachrome film.
