Images like this assemblage of coprosma, mosses and lichens at the southern end of Lake Hauroko, Fiordland, enchant me because they create a wandering eye perception. I seek out places like this where no feature dominates and the colours are close to each other. I've learnt much from looking hard at Eliot Porter, an American landscape photographer, who taught me to use a limited palette and not be afraid of complexity.

Taken on Asahi Pentax 6/7. 45mm lens. 100 ASA Ektachrome film. Aperture F22.
