During three days of stormy mountain weather I was lucky enough to be in a mountain hut on the side of Mt Aspiring. Eventually clearance began with a low raking stream of sunlight bathing the new snow on Mt Bevan. The old kodachrome film I was using in my 35mm camera at the time was known for colour saturation and strong light contrast. Perhaps the sky was not actually as dark to my eyes, but the mood of that evening and the preceding three days certainly matched the brooding intensity of these beautiful colours.
