Once you comprehend the sheer scale of the cliffs in this image you are overwhelmed for a few moments. This very powerful place is deep in the Southern Alps. I simply composed it around the traditional use of horizontal and vertical thirds, drawn to the dark heavy-metal colours of the cliffs and their contrast with the light colours of the spurting falls and the soft groves of tussock and olearia trees.
